Comment: DON BYAS Savoy Jam Party - The Savoy Sessions ( US track double LP compiling a variety of sessions featuring a varied line-up recorded between & gatefold picture sleeve with extensive liner notes from Dan Morgenstern. The cover shows only minor wear or signs of age & both vinyl discs appear near as new. Rugged full blooded even erotic - naturally Byas didnt play the /5(3).

For fans of Hawkins this is a terrific buy showing Byas off in tremendous company. You get three sets of mid 40's trumpet led quintet/sextets with the likes of Charlie Shavers,Emmett Berry and Benny Harris in the driving seats alongside some wonderful rhythm sections -one of which centres around the unique rumbling bass/voice efforts of the one and only Slam Stewart/5(6).

It's no secret that Don Byas made some of his best recordings in Europe, not America – and this tasty little set is great support of that fact! The set features numbers that Byas cut in Paris at the end of the 40s – working with a mixture of American and Parisian players that includes Billy Taylor, Bernard Peiffer, Bill Coleman, Peanuts Holland, Tyree Glenn, and Hubert Rostaing.
